Terms and conditions
Version 2026-08-05 · 5 August 2026
Plain English on purpose. If a clause below matters to you and is not clear, ask before you join rather than after.
1. Who can join
You must be 18 or over. Membership is intended for serving and former members of the armed forces of New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States, and for people who have worked in private security or under contract alongside them.
An administrator decides every application by hand. We can decline one without giving a detailed reason, and we do not have to explain how we reached a view about whether somebody served.
2. Your account
You choose a handle. We do not ask for your real name and we would rather you did not use it. You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has it.
One account per person. Do not share one, and do not create a second to get around a suspension.
3. What you post
You must not post:
- anything about current or planned operations;
- locations still in use, or routes to them;
- names, images or identifying details of serving personnel;
- anything classified, or anything you are under a legal or contractual obligation not to disclose;
- material that identifies another person who has not agreed to it;
- photographs or writing that are not yours to publish;
- abuse, harassment, threats, or material intended to incite violence;
- anything unlawful in New Zealand or in the country you are posting from.
You remain responsible for your own disclosure obligations. Several of the countries above place continuing legal restrictions on what former special forces personnel may say publicly. This site does not lift them and we cannot advise you on them. If you are unsure whether you may publish something, do not publish it here.
4. Your material stays yours
4.1 You keep ownership of everything you post. Your photographs are yours, and your writing is yours.
4.2 You grant Daggermen a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, edit, adapt, translate, publish, distribute and sub-licence that material, in any medium now known or later devised, for any purpose connected with running or promoting Daggermen. That licence continues even if you later close your account.
4.3 In plain terms: we can put your yarn on the front page, in a printed collection, in something we sell, or in an advertisement for the site, without asking again and without paying you. You can do exactly the same with it elsewhere, because you still own it.
4.4 We will credit you by your handle where it is practical to do so. Tell us if you would rather we did not.
4.5 You confirm that the material is yours to give — that you created it or otherwise hold the rights, and that publishing it does not breach anyone else's rights or any obligation you are under.
4.6 The licence does not oblige us to keep anything published. We can withdraw any material at any time, and you can ask us to.
5. Visibility is your choice, and it has limits
You choose who can read each yarn. We will honour that setting. But anything shown to another person can be copied by them, and we cannot prevent that. Treat anything you post as potentially permanent and potentially public, whatever the setting says.
6. Moderation
We can withdraw any post, suspend an account, or remove a member, with or without notice, if we think it necessary — particularly where operational security or someone's safety is involved. We will record why. We do not have to reach a high bar of proof before acting on something that looks like it could get someone hurt.
7. This is not a crisis service
Daggermen is not a counselling, medical or emergency service. Nobody here is monitoring for people in distress. The support page lists services that are — and if someone is in immediate danger, call your emergency number.
8. No warranty, and what we are liable for
The site is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, error-free or secure against every attack. To the fullest extent the law allows, Daggermen is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data, arising from your use of the site.
Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded by agreement.
9. Ending it
You can close your account at any time by asking us. We will remove your material from view. The licence in section 4 continues for anything we have already published or used, and copies may remain in backups for a period while those age out.
10. Changes
We may change these terms. We record which version you agreed to and when. If we make a material change we will ask you to agree again rather than assume your continued use is agreement.
11. Law
These terms are governed by the law of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction. This does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law where you live.
12. Contact
Through the suggestions form. It reaches a person.
